I Took Down A Wall I Probably Should Not Have Taken Down

Central Illinois

It was load bearing. We are fine. The wall is not.

I Took Down A Wall I Probably Should Not Have Taken Down

The plan was simple: open up the living room, add a header, look like a genius on camera.

About twelve minutes into demo I found the thing you never want to find, which is a wall doing an actual job.

We stopped, we called a guy, we did it properly with a real beam and real posts and a real permit. It cost about four times the original estimate and took three extra weeks.

The room looks incredible now. I would still say do not do this yourself unless you enjoy the specific flavor of stress that comes with holding up a ceiling.

Want to see what I do next?

Probably food. Maybe a building. Possibly something stupid.
